This series of ten talks is the part of our Foundation Course dedicated to introducing our practices of Prayer of the Heart, which can be watched and discussed at any open Praxis Group meeting, or over the web on a pay-per-view basis by those who register. At a later date, additional films building up the basics of the traditional teaching will be made available, but apart from introductory material, many of these will be offered only to subscribing members. |
praxis FOUNDATION STUDIES SERIES 2006 - 3 A series of talks on interior prayer that - live or in webcast form - forms part of our introduction to the Christian Inner Tradition. The Christian practice of Prayer of the Heart makes it possible for Christians to fulfil the requirements of the New Testament and of the early Fathers of the Church for regular or ‘unceasing’ prayer first introduced by Saint Paul. It gives us a way of overcoming the anarchy of the psyche. It does so in a way which meets the need for a method said by P. D. Ouspensky to be lacking in certain modern versions of traditional Christian teaching, and it has now been clearly identified as the method used by the Tradition from which those teachings were taken. It meets the same needs as do certain Eastern methods of meditation, but with certain additions to make it appropriate to modern man. These additions make it effective in the overall context of the Inner Christian tradition. The first thing we need to understand is that this kind of prayer is a craft or skill that can be learned from experience and sustained and made more effective by persistent practice. | praxis Webcast series 2006/P2 We have spent more than a year recently exploring new technology for ‘broadcasting’ video over the web. This now allows you to ‘tune in’ on the web to a filmed version of a meeting, which you can then watch. This web-site will tell you what is available and will then connect you. There are now accessible on this site two FREE lectures which anyone can view. There will then be a series of ten Lectures on Theosis which can be watched on a pay-per-view basis by those who register. Praxis members or groups who subscribe regularly at an agreed amount can watch simply by typing in a password. Registration is necessary because we have found that it is important that these studies are paced, and so the system is intended only to allow viewing of two of these lecture films each month. At a later date, additional films building up the basics of the traditional teaching will be made available, but many of these will be offered only to subscribing members. Robin Amis, Director of Praxis Research Institute and author of A Different Christianity , in a new series of webcast video-lectures introducing the basic principles of Esoteric Christianity as taught on Mount Athos. He will also be speaking on the same subject in Central London - see programme link for dates. Or click here for program information. |
