22.  Abstract of : Research Report

It all began with the question; who has ever met a saint? Praxis began as a search for the springs of Christian sanctity; a search for the sources of the esoteric or inner teachings of the early church; not for a different Gospel, but for a different way of understanding the Gospel. A large part of the text of this site reports on researches and studies into certain ideas and methods widely known in the early church but difficult to discover, in one way or another, in modern Christianity. This particular page links this to key texts we have found in this investigation.

At the same time as being a properly documented study of the ideas that have been rediscovered, our whole site is also of necessity the summary of a personal search, since we have found it essential to link the discovered ideas to personal experience. It does this not so much to provide a final definition, as to suggest to readers how they should develop their own understanding of the same ideas. This is because the esoteric tradition is so easily misunderstood that, to avoid dangerous mistakes, actions should only be taken on the basis of clear and unequivocal recognition; either from a clear personal understanding in which the teaching is verified by one's own direct experience, or initially, on an experimental basis, under guidance of somebody who possesses that experience.

I should also add that although these researches have been supported by traceable sources to a degree unusual in such a work, sometimes by taking them to a point of academic accuracy, it is in large part a study of an unwritten tradition, and it has been found – quite logically -- that documentary evidence of that unwritten tradition is not always available. 1
