6.     Lost Christian truths restored to life

It seems as if certain inner teachings of the Christian faith, many of them lost more than a thousand years ago, are now beginning to re-emerge into the Western world. On a small scale, there is a movement seeking a re-emergence of the original teaching of the one church, before its schismatic division into different denominations, each of which had - and has - its own beliefs, more or less different from those of the Gospel. The original teachings are now perhaps becoming generally accessible in the West for the first time in anything like their complete form.

7.     When Truth has lost its power - Continuation of Commentary-6.

The meat of this Commentary is put clearly in the New Testament, it is that: "? you should be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man seeing his natural face in a glass: for he sees himself and goes his way, and quickly forgets what kind of man he was. But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty, and persists in this, not one who hears and forgets, but one who carries out the work, this man will be blessed in his action." (James 1:22-25.)

8.     The Royal Road of the Early Fathers

The fathers of the early church named the Christian spiritual way the Royal Way or Royal Road. Clement of Alexandria wrote about it that: "While there is one royal highway, there are many other roads, some leading to a precipice, some to a rushing river or a deep sea, no one will shrink from travelling by reason of the diversity, but will make use of the safe, and royal, and frequented way."

9.     The special language of esoteric knowledge

This discusses the problem of transmitting inner knowledge from generation to generation and age, and the fact that at our present time, in the West, this transmission has almost come to an end. Because of this, Praxis Research Institute has been investigating the 'inner rules and language' governing Christian spirituality since the beginning of the 1970's. Some time ago, this investigation led to the conclusion that those rules formed a true discipline with definite knowledge that proved effective in practice, and that it should be understood, taught, practiced, and even extended on this assumption.

10.  A new look at a key point in the history of the Christian faith

This detailed study of the ideas of Professor John Romanides, by Praxis member Vera Turton, describes his view of how the beliefs of Eastern and Western churches have diverged over the centuries, and gives a surprising view of the original - but generally forgotten - aims of the Christian church.

A glance at the work of Professor John S. Romanides
