"A few years ago, people were accustomed to speak about working on oneself in terms of the difference between 'working from within' and 'working from without'.

"Inner Christianity is not only an alternative spiritual method in the sense that it builds defences against the pressure of the world into the individual psyche instead of depending on the walls and organisation of a monastery, but it achieves this by exactly the method which originally gave rise to the idea of working from within: it functions through the transmission of spiritual energies that appear to arise inside the individual, yet not only do they bring stillness to our inner life, but they also have the surprising effect of making us more inwardly visible to ourselves.

"These energies are therefore both the cause and the result of the whole process of spiritual growth."

WELCOME !

The video-clip showing now is a brief sample of one of the lectures in this series.

When you click here you will be able to view the filmed talk you selected from the previous screen.  In a few weeks there will be papers listed below that can be read or saved/printed to serve as a reminder to extend and support studies at meetings and through lectures.

As an effective way of introducing the traditional Inner Christianity of the early Church, we currently offer a series of readings from an English commentary on a book by the Abbot of a monastery on Mount Athos. The subject of his book is Theosis, the early Christian doctrine of Deification, which is still taught in many of the monasteries of the Orthodox Church.

Archimandrite George, the Abbot or Hegoumen of the monastery, frequently gives talks to various Christian communities throughout Greece, and these talks form the basis of the text of his book, originally drawn from taped extracts from the many talks he has given about that subject, which he regards as so important that it is usually his preferred subject when speaking somewhere for the first time.  However, the content of these talks and their classic Greek rhetorical style has made them difficult to translate into English, and they were originally given against a Greek background which makes different assumptions from those common to the English mind.
